Countdown Continues...

June 8, 2015 Clancy McKenna

I picked the rig up from Camping World in Kingston. Spent the rest of Saturday and most of Sunday cleaning it. A post-mechanic and pre-move-in deep cleaning.

Stepping Out Of The Stream

May 31, 2015 Clancy McKenna

I’ve spent much of my life trying to “push the river.” But now, here I am about to step out of the stream.

Sort Books, Pack Books, Make A Reservation

Um...yes. You can.

Um...yes. You can.

My home looks like a post-Super-storm Sandy clean-up effort, without the salt water.

One foot on the dock...one foot in the boat.

Boys + Bear playing in the bed

Boys + Bear playing in the bed

After spending Spring Break week in my motor home I woke up in my apartment, in my own bed, disoriented; couldn’t find the bathroom for a nighttime visit without putting a light on.

Motoring to Maryland

On the Turnpike with the Big Boys

On the Turnpike with the Big Boys

I packed up, battened down the hatches, took the RV for my first dump station experience, and then drove off to Brooklyn to pick up my friend Margaret, who had agreed to join me on this Shakedown cruise. We planned to drive the Jersey Turnpike all the way south through a tiny bit of Delaware, and on into Maryland, to Elk Neck State Park. It was about 150 miles from Brooklyn to the park.

The Blues

April 17, 2015 Clancy McKenna

The best Easter ever!

A lot is happening every day, but it is so hard to write about stuff as it is happening. I'm going to have to get used to live-blogging I guess. Don’t think I’m a tweet-grrl, but “never say never” as my bro always reminds me.

After the kids went home, I got the blues. No. Capital B Blues!

Shakedown Cruise

April 12, 2015 Clancy McKenna

I picked The Winster up from Ed’s friend Bill who has kindly offered part of his driveway to store it until end of June. I emptied the Subaru into the central aisle, (if you don’t want it to fall, put it on the floor, was my reasoning) I didn’t have time to fool around, putting things away, so I just stuffed everything—boxes, shopping bags, plastic tubs—into the aisle. I pushed everything together tightly, so it wouldn’t slide around in transit.

Omg! Omg! Omg! Packed my Subaru with a ton of stuff, and left my house in the icy, snowy, pre-dawn hours. I picked up Alyssa over in Brooklyn, and drove two hours into Connecticut to pick up The Beast.

Panic Attacks? Happy and Excited? Stress Overload?

March 28, 2015 Clancy McKenna

I’ve been having these episodes, where feel like I ate a bag of candy with a pot of espresso as a chaser. (I don’t eat sugar or drink coffee these days, but have done in the past, so I know the feeling.)  I just suddenly become breathless, shaky, and weak.

I have returned to New Mexico. My friend Kath, is hosting me for a four-day vacation-visit. I have been to NM a few times. It’s significant, since I really haven't traveled much, that I keep returning here. I totally love this landscape, the deep dark greens, the silver-green sage, all the ocher, black and crimson. It’s just so much beauty!

Transition: from here...to there!

Transition: from here...to there!

Alyssa came over to help me empty the storage loft. I had built it in the hallway, just inside my front door. With the high ceilings in this apartment, I was able to create a loft that was five feet deep, by three feet high, and 42 inches across.

Nova Scotia Notes

February 15, 2015 Clancy McKenna

I have always wanted to explore Nova Scotia and Cape Breton. I have actually planned the trip there a few times over the last twenty years, only to have it fall apart for various reasons. I think that finally, I’m actually going to spend some time up there this summer.

A Different Kind Of Life Review

February 7, 2015 Clancy McKenna

You’d think that cleaning out miles of files, shredding acres of papers would be lonely, boring work. But no.  For me, it’s another life review. I’m still trying to adjust to the idea that Mom is gone, so maybe this is a good task for me today.

Nightmare vs. Morning

January 30, 2015 Clancy McKenna

Horrifying dream last night. Linda Hartmann was in it, (an RVing/work connection?) we were trying to get away from these monster assassins, just barely escaping from the place where they had us cornered, and out into the night. Running, running!

Cleaning Out/Donations

January 22, 2015 Clancy McKenna

I began this big job over our Christmas break from school. I needed to shred or recycle an impressive amount of paper from my files. I have one cabinet that has two 36” long lateral file drawers, plus a standard two-drawer file cabinet.  Then, there are two Container Store plastic tubs, with materials for my book project.

Omg, omg, omg!

January 18, 2015 Clancy McKenna

Omg omg omg! I put a deposit on a motor home up in Branford, CT!

Kath saw this one, and sent the link to me.  A 26 foot Winnebago Aspect. It has 44,000 miles on it. For $39,500, exactly what the NADA ratings list as “Low retail, good price.”
